This official Arsenal shirt was worn by captain Thierry Henry for the Premier League London derby against West Ham United at Highbury in February 2006.
On the stroke of half-time, Henry diverted Robert Pires’ low shot into the net. It was his 151st league goal for the club, taking him past Cliff Bastin to become Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer in the league.
The shirt is the redcurrant design made for Highbury’s final season, a one-off colour honouring the shirts Arsenal wore when they moved to the ground in 1913. Henry had already overtaken Ian Wright’s overall scoring record that October, and in May he said goodbye to Highbury in the same kit, completing a hat-trick against Wigan and kissing the turf.
He finished the campaign with 27 league goals and the Golden Boot, and left Arsenal with 228 goals in all competitions. Still carrying stains from the match, this shirt belongs to the club’s greatest goalscorer on the night he made the league record his own.
