The Road to Cardiff: a journey filled with thrilling moments, unforgettable matches, and indescribable euphoria. Heading into the 2016/2017 season, Real Madrid was looking to make history once again by becoming the first team to win the Champions League trophy in back-to-back seasons. Considered by many to be an impossible feat, the Zidane-led team was determined to conquer European soccer once again and prove why they are widely regarded as the Kings of the Champions League!
Real’s road to glory was marked by its unmatched goal-scoring prowess and intensity. The team began its UCL campaign in dominant fashion, defeating teams like Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon to go undefeated in the group stage. During the knockout stages of the tournament, Real Madrid looked simply unstoppable—after beating Napoli, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid in convincing fashion, Juventus was the last obstacle standing between Real and “Duodecima”.
The stage was set. In front of a sold-out crowd at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Real Madrid took on a solid Juventus squad, with the winner earning bragging rights and the privilege of calling itself the “best team in the world”! Despite an evenly matched first half, Real Madrid left no doubt in the second 45 minutes as Zidane’s men scored 3 unanswered goals to secure their 12th Champions League title and their 3rd in the last 4 seasons!
