Last week, we witnessed history in the making as Fenerbahçe’s and Galatasaray’s women’s soccer teams faced off in the first-ever women’s Intercontinental Derby! The friendly match took place at Galatasaray’s iconic “Nef Stadium,” with thousands of fans passionately cheering on their favorite side throughout the full 90 minutes.

Before kickoff, both teams took the field carrying “No violence against women” banners to express their stance to the thousands in attendance.
The match may have ended 7-0 in favor of Fenerbahçe, but regardless of the result, it marked an important milestone in the fight against gender-based violence. After the game, players from both sides expressed their shared enthusiasm for the historic occasion, highlighting the importance of setting the clubs’ differences aside and uniting behind social causes that can have a meaningful impact far beyond the world of sports and politics.
