For a good cause: Germany’s national team auctions off its hand-painted "Human Rights" shirts

The "Human Rights" jerseys, hand-painted by the German national team players, are up for auction.

With this campaign, DIE MANNSCHAFT not only wants to point out that it is our daily responsibility to stand up for human rights—always and everywhere in the world—but above all to provide tangible help. The proceeds will go to the organization "BAG Wohnungslosenhilfe e.V.", which is dedicated to combating homelessness and poverty in Germany and which the national team has already supported through its foundation in the past. To help as a team—as it did last year, when the national team provided, among other things, emergency COVID aid totaling 2.5 million euros.

The national team's clear statement drew worldwide attention: immediately before kickoff of the World Cup qualifier against Iceland, the DFB team lined up in jerseys that had been specially painted by the players beforehand. Each of the black jerseys featured a white letter. Together they formed the words "HUMAN RIGHTS". A strong commitment to the 30 universal human rights, which would be followed by other actions in the subsequent qualifying matches.

The team intends to use the auction proceeds to support the charitable work of "BAG Wohnungslosenhilfe e.V.". In the spirit of Article 25 of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which grants everyone the right to an adequate standard of living.
