Cercle Brugge pays tribute to Miguel Van Damme

On what was a very emotional day, Cercle Brugge bade farewell to Miguel van Damme on April 3 before the game against KAA Gent. In addition to an extensive pregame ceremony to honor Miguel van Damme, Cercle played in special match jerseys in which the players’ names were replaced by ‘Miguel’.

Once the game started, Thibo Somers managed to score 2 goals in the 2-2 draw and paid a touching tribute by showing van Damme’s jersey after the first goal. His game-worn jersey, signed with the words “2 goals voor Migi”, and his teammates’ jerseys are being auctioned off for Me To You, the leukemia foundation for which Miguel was an ambassador. Somers commented: “Too bad we couldn’t win for Miguel, but we still showed the fighting spirit that he has shown all his life.”

It is a brilliant way to honor their former teammate during what must be an extremely difficult period for the club, as well as Miguel's family and friends. RIP Miguel.
