One player who has been dividing opinion in the media and drawing major global attention is forward Cody Gakpo, who opened the scoring for the Netherlands against Qatar, becoming the first player at this World Cup to score in three consecutive matches. This was not the only record the 23-year-old set; he also became the first player in Oranje history to score in his first three World Cup matches. Gakpo is also currently tied with Dutch legend Johan Cruyff in World Cup goals, with both scoring three in the tournament. Gakpo is also impressing outside the World Cup, with more goal contributions than Erling Haaland—30 to the Manchester City star's 26.
