Innovative idea gives blind Panathinaikos fans the ability to experience the beautiful game

“What is the most innovative way to include as many soccer enthusiasts as possible?” That’s what the creative minds at Panathinaikos must have been thinking when they came up with one of the newest initiatives in their CSR program, “Panathinaikos for everyone”. To be honest, they have come up with something even we have never seen before: Braille inscriptions on the home, away, and third kits.
Braille is a writing system that enables blind people to read. Normally, Braille characters are embossed on paper or another smooth surface so people can read them with their fingertips. However, Panathinaikos, together with the charitable organization “Lighthouse of the Blind,” found a way to incorporate Braille into their jerseys. Each member of the Panathinaikos squad has the team name on the back of their jersey above their number.
This is a unique and amazing way for blind and visually impaired people to experience the beautiful game of soccer.
As part of their continued support for the charity “Lighthouse of the Blind,” Panathinaikos will be auctioning off their match-worn jerseys to raise money for the organization. The Greek organization supports blind people, raises public awareness about the challenges they face, and has done so since 1946.
This social inclusion project is a prime example of the amazing initiatives showcased during the #MoreThanFootball EFDN Action Weeks, the biggest campaign for community involvement and social responsibility in European soccer. “Panathinaikos for everyone” is proud to be a part of this immense campaign.
The Panathinaikos jerseys that you’ll be able to bid on for the Action Weeks are the 2020/2021 home jerseys. The jerseys feature stripes in two different shades of green, combined with white accents. They will also include the Braille inscriptions, making them some of the most unique jerseys you can get your hands on while contributing to an amazing cause!
The auction runs until May 1, and you can check out the jerseys here.
