Three reasons these Cercle Brugge jerseys are special

On September 17, Cercle Brugge, the historic team from Bruges, played Eupen in the eighth round of the Belgian Pro League. The game ended 1 - 2 in favor of the visitors, but aside from the score, it was a memorable night for all fans. Here are three reasons why:

1 - Cercle’s Miguel van Damme, the goalkeeper who turns 28 today, kicked off the game to send a message. September is blood cancer awareness month, and van Damme has been battling leukemia for the past several years. He stood there for “Me to You,” an organization whose aim is to fund research to combat the disease and support patients.

What a club, Cercle Brugge. In difficult times they came through for van Damme, first by renewing his contract and now by partnering with the charity to raise funds and awareness.

2 - These kits, designed by KAPPA, are simple yet pleasing to the eye. Green is quite rare when it comes to soccer kits, and the rarer the better. The numbers on the back were signed by the players, and some of them left a special message, like 23-year-old Charles Vanhoutte, the night's goal scorer, who expressed his happiness on the shirt by signing “Vanhoutte, 14, 1st goal” with a smile.
