This official Inter shirt was prepared for Javier Zanetti for the 1996/97 season. It bears his number 4, worn from his debut onwards.
The shirt dates from Zanetti's second campaign in Milan, a year after his arrival from Banfield. Fast becoming a mainstay under Roy Hodgson, he made 50 appearances in all competitions as Inter reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals and the UEFA Cup final against Schalke 04.
Zanetti went on to make a record 858 appearances for Inter and win 16 trophies, 15 of them with the armband, crowned by the 2010 treble. The 4 was withdrawn from use in his honour. Still serving Inter as vice-president, he remains the benchmark for Nerazzurri loyalty, and this shirt captures him early in that story.
